Nelson Mandela is an international icon of leadership. Undoubtedly one of the best
leaders of all time, he marked the emergence of a new kind of African
leadership - one that is marked by honour, integrity, humanity,
resilience and courage. The scholarship seeks to develop leadership
of Nelson Mandela's calibre and it seeks to attract scholars who
have already demonstrated strong leadership capacity, be it in politics,
business or community work.
The scholarship wishes to recognise
the dedication, determination and drive of previously disadvantaged
graduates, by giving them the opportunity to undertake a year of
post-graduate study at one of the best universities in the United
Kingdom. We believe that exposure to the diverse spectrum of cultures
will challenge, motivate and rapidly develop the leadership potential
of our scholars.
We have selected the United Kingdom as a destination, not only because of its strategic
importance to South Africa or the reputation of it's universities, but also because we
