Jabu Baloyi
MBA, Graduate
School of Business, Strathclyde University
I started
my career as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist at Hillbrow
Hospital. I was soon promoted to Acting Head of the department
and then to Chief Speech Therapist and Audiologist. After I
completed a Management Advancement Programme at Wits Business
School, I joined Anglogold Health Services as a Senior Audiologist
and became a member of the Health Professions Council of South
Africa. I completed my MBA at Strathclyde University, attaining
cum laude for my thesis on Change Management and Innovation.
After this, I took up a one year placement at Unilever Plc in
the UK, where I spent the first five months at Bird's Eye Walls,
working on Project Eclipse, which involved the implementation
of SAP R/3 and harmonising work processes throughout Unilever
in Europe. Currently I am working in Marketing, as an assistant
brand manager, and I hope to pursue a career in this field when
I return to South Africa in August 2002.

Winnie Ntombikanina Malinga
MA International Political Economy, Warwick University
I enjoyed
the demands and challenges of my course at Warwick. My course-mates,
tutors and I would often engage in lively, in-depth critical debates.
After I graduated in 2000, I worked for Unilever UK for a year
and I've found that international work experience has further
complemented my degree and developed my knowledge and skills.
When I return to South Africa in June 2002, I hope to
pursue my career in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility
and I also wish to be directly involved in community work.

Fatima Shabodien
MPhil Development
Studies, University of Sussex
My two years
of graduate studies have significantly improved both my skills
base and my international networking exposure. During my two
years in the UK, I have learnt as much from my formal academic
endeavours as I have from the rich life experiences of my classmates.
Since completing my studies I have been employed with an international
NGO where I have been working as a Monitoring and Evaluation
Specialist in the field of civil society development in Indonesia.
Based on my exposure in Indonesia and during my studies in the
UK, I now believe that, in light of growing globalisation and
interdependence, South Africa needs to be more outward focused
both to learn from the experiences of other developing and developed
nations, and also to share the rich experience of our own nation
with others in their
respective development processes.
