DELOITTE

At the beginning of 2003, Deloitte became co-sponsor of the Nelson Mandela Scholarship, which was launched by the Unilever in 1998. The US-based partners of Deloitte each personally contributed to the USD 1 million, which will enable us to fund an additional four scholars anually over a period of five years.

At the launch of this partnership,Mr Pierre Tredoux, head of Deloitte SA, said that his company's involvement in a project that encouraged both leadership and learning came naturally since the nature of its business dictated that only people of the highest calibre were employed. "Commitment to our people has taught us many times over that by educating the most talented, one gets the best return on one's investment." he said.

Tredoux stressed that partnerships made a company stronger, and through the alliance with the Unilever, the scholarship would create many more opportunities for South Africans than would be possible without pooling resources.
